The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend that adults aged 18 to 64 get 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic activity each week. 150 minutes can reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, some types of cancer, type 2 diabetes and obesity. 150 sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it all in one shot. 10 minutes playing hide and go seek with your kids, 20 minutes of brisk walking, 60 minutes of punching and you’re over half way there.
Wait a minute.
60 minutes of punching?
Driftwood Martial Arts Studio has created a fun program intended to help prevent some of the major health issues mentioned above. Driftwoods’ Cardio Kickboxing classes take the best of martial arts, like punching (and kicking and blocking too), combine it with effective calisthenics, aerobic and relaxation techniques and serve it up with some high energy music. The result is a fun, effective way to get fit and reduce stress.
In fact, it is so effective that Muscle and Fitness magazine has rated Cardio Kickboxing as the top fat burning exercise, since the average woman can burn up to 700 calories in one class.
Driftwood guarantees that its Cardio Kickboxing classes are also effective at making you smile and that goes a long way to protecting your health too. Stress can lead to higher blood pressure, narrowing of the arteries and mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. You’ll leave Cardio Kickboxing feeling relaxed and recharged.
Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never practiced martial arts or aren’t in shape. The instructors are trained to work with all fitness levels and participants are encouraged to go at their own pace. Driftwood offers Cardio Kickboxing three times a week for ages 13 and up. For more information visit www.driftwoodkarate.com and get ready to raise your dukes for health.
